A few years ago a Facebook thread showed up on my feed that was like “cryptically admit your darkest secret!” and so i went through the comments and some old dude made a comment that gave me massive creep vibes so I went through his online social media presence, eventually found his ancient myspace which was linked to a deviantart account that led to another random skeevy art website he was on where he was drawing nothing but ruby gloom cartoon porn so I went back to the Facebook thread and posted a screenshot of the account under his comment. He lost his shit and when I asked if the ruby gloom fixation was why his ex wife left him he blocked me.

sometimes a post makes you get out of bed at 230am to spend a quick hour on something like this
why is it so difficult for ppl to distinguish between “this person is a literal bigot and should not have a platform” and “this person is not actively malicious but has accidentally done a couple harmful things that should be addressed” and “this person has made a few poor taste jokes several years ago but has since grown as a person” and “this person simply just didn’t know the ‘proper’ term for something”

Split most people into three catagories
Those who have done harmful things, but didn’t know they were harmful things.
People who have done harmful things and upon finding out they were harmful things, educated themselves and did better in the future.
People who have done harmful things and upon finding out they were harmful things, doubled down, insisted they were right to do/say such a thing, insist they were within their rights to do/say such things, or just plain ignore what they’ve done and call it not a big deal.
The first type need telling that what they’re doing is harmful, in a way that hopefully leads them to the second option. Third option deserve no quarter.
